Tony Hawk Wants A Tony Hawk’s Underground Remaster Too: “I’ll Campaign All I Can”

Just like many longtime fans of the skating game franchise, Tony Hawk also wants to see a remaster of Tony Hawk's Underground . The Pro Skater series is seeing its second remaster collection with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 in July 2025 , but the other iconic series, Underground , has not received the same treatment.

Screen Rant spoke to Hawk at THPS Fest, and asked him if there are aspirations to keep the series going with a THUG remaster. " I always have aspirations ," Hawk said. " It's not up to me generally. I'll campaign all I can, but I'm working with a much bigger company that's a lot smarter than me ." Hawk then clarified that a Tony Hawk's Underground remaster hasn't really been discussed, noting that THPS 3 + 4 hasn't yet been released, the success of which may impact the franchise's future.

Although it sounds like there are no plans yet for a Tony Hawk's Underground remaster, Hawk himself would like to see the series continue to receive such re-releases. Screen Rant asked, " [Has Activision] whipsered that, 'If this does well, maybe we'll look at Underground,' or is it too early to tell? " referring to Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 . Hawk responded with a very candid, " Yeah, we haven't even released this game ." The Tony Hawk's remasters appear to be green-lit on a case-by-case basis. THPS 3 + 4 was reportedly canceled in 2022, before the project was seemingly revived for release this year.

While Pro Skater was more successful with four entries in the Neversoft era, Underground is equally beloved for its differing focus. Underground lets players create their own character and pursue a career as a skater , working up from the relative obscurity of "underground" skate competitions. There's a heavier focus on story as well, and THUG is billed as more of an adventure title than a straight-up skating game like Pro Skater .

Activision Is Seemingly Careful With The Tony Hawk's Remaster Series

New Games Are Few & Far Between

You, me, and Tony Hawk might all want a Tony Hawk's Underground remaster after THPS 3 + 4 , but Activison appears to be cautious with the series moving forward. The last original console installment was 2015's widely panned Pro Skater 5 , and there were five years between 2020's THPS 1 + 2 and 2025's THPS 3 + 4 . The series carries a massive amount of name recognition, but is clearly not profitable enough for Activision to pursue agressively.

A THUG remaster likely depends on how effectively THPS 3 + 4 can deliver its " skater fantasy ," and whether it sells enough copies to justify the development of future titles. Pro Skater is receiving another collection of remasters, and EA's Skate revival is on the way, but the skateboarding genre has largely moved to smaller simulation projects, like Session: Skate Sim and Skate XL . Tony Hawk himself still seems committed to the series, but only time will tell if a remaster of Tony Hawk's Underground is in the cards.
