There are many different adventures to embark on in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 outside of the emotional main story. As the game gradually allows you to explore the furthest corners of the Continent, you'll wind up finding all sorts of hidden locales that can lead to some exciting rewards.

One particularly mysterious locale in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the Sunless Cliffs . For those unsure, here's a rundown on where exactly to find it on the game's massively detailed map and what it entails in terms of content.

Where to Find Sunless Cliffs in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The Sunless Cliffs is one of the more elusive optional locations found in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 , as it's tucked within a crevice on top of a cliff. You can find its colorful portal southeast of Sirene island and also a Gestral Beach location to the east of it.

To reach the Sunless Cliffs portal, you will need to have access to Esquie's flying ability , which requires a certain amount of progress in the main story (specifically the end of Act 2). This is because the portal itself is nestled on a raised cliff ledge surrounded by water on either side, so swimming won't do the trick this time.

It's just as well, because the content within Sunless Cliffs poses a significant challenge best suited for true endgame progression, so don't worry about rushing to dive in too quickly.

Once inside, you'll find that the Sunless Cliffs is a relatively small location. From the entrance, there isn't much to find or see besides the ominous eclipse over the monolith ahead. Run forward until the path diverts left and right. The left route leads to a short dead end with nothing there, so don't bother. Instead, head to the right and into the tunnel.

On the other side of the tunnel, you'll find a rather unsettling room with a huge portal structure and an Expedition Flag nearby. This is the main feature of the Sunless Cliffs, and you'll want to be thoroughly prepared with polished builds for the difficult challenge that lies on the other side. Attempting this challenge is not recommended until your party is at least Level 80 , if not max level , with upgraded weapons and Pictos that heartily buff your characters' stats .

This is especially because, upon interacting with the portal, you'll find that only one party member is allowed to enter . In other words, you will only have one character to use in the fight ahead, similar to fights with Gestral Merchants. As such, you will need to choose very wisely.

How to Defeat the Sunless Cliffs Mime

The challenge that lies within the portal turns out to be one of the game's many different Mime boss encounters . However, this is considered the most difficult one in the entire game, as if its menacing red eyes weren't telling enough.

Just like all other Mimes, this one will start the fight by building up a "wall" in front of it, boosting its defense stat considerably. It'll also employ the same two familiar attacks, one being a 3-hit melee combo, while the other sees it brandishing a hammer and attempting to flatten its target over 5 hits. The strategy needed to defeat it is thankfully also the same; it involves using your party's attacks to fill the yellow 'Break' gauge below its health bar.

Once the gauge is 'broken' with an appropriate attack, the Mime will be temporarily stunned, and its defense stat will lower back to its original level, allowing you to bombard it with your most powerful moves for heavy damage the rest of the fight.

In the case of this Mime, however, with its combat stats inherently being very high, it's not nearly as easy to survive its attacks, should one land. If you're underleveled and/or undergeared, this Mime can easily one-hit KO your one party member. This makes dodging such punishing damage a priority, and your attacks need to be punishing enough in return to build its 'Break' gauge as fast as possible.

Once you manage to defeat this Mime, the fight will reward you with 'The One' Pictos (first time only) along with a 'Bald' haircut for the character you used in that respective fight. Unlike other Mimes in the game, this fight can be repeated as often as needed if you want to get the same bald look for your entire party.
